This is a full-time, permanent role.

Our client, in the teaching sector, is looking to recruit a highly motivated Assistant Head Teacher (L3 – L6) to work with the Head Teacher and Governors to inspire/support colleagues whilst maintaining drive for continuous improvement in all aspects.  In addition to carrying out professional duties as a teacher, as Assistant Head Teacher you will also be responsible for supporting the Head Teacher with the overall management and leadership, including :-

  • Formulating aims/objectives
  • Establishing policies, though which they shall be achieved
  • Managing staff/resources to that end
  • Managing progress towards their achievement
  • Undertaking delegated professional duties of the Head Teacher (e.g. lunch time duties/assemblies)
  • Leading staff in conjunction with the Head Teacher and SMT on Teaching & Learning
  • Monitoring the quality of Teaching & Learning
  • Acting as a role model for quality first Teaching & Learning
  • Supporting Head Teacher and staff in the development of a high quality learning environment
  • In conjunction with the Head Teacher, advising on Teaching & Learning Strategies Standards
  • Along with the Head Teacher and other SMT members, monitoring the outcomes of provision in terms of standards/Pupil Premium outcomes/pupil wellbeing
  • Supporting in the development of creativity in the curriculum guidelines/enrichment (especially incorporating child initiated learning)
  • Leading through example for all on site, creating a positive and inclusive learning climate where distributive leadership is encouraged, regardless of position in staffing structure
  • Guiding/supporting/motivating staff
  • Taking on the role of SEND co-ordinator
  • Working with the Head Teacher to develop community cohesion at all levels, e.g. supporting events/activities

The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Special Requirements: 
  • Qualifications & Training :  QTS / Senco qualification (graduate or equivalent (preferred)
  • Leadership Level 2 (or above) with proven experience as an outstanding teacher, preferably with some management experience as well as teaching experience across the age range (at least 6 years’ experience as an outstanding teacher plus some management experience desirable)
  • Experience of leadership/team building, working well with all stakeholders
  • Some experience of interpretation of statistical information
  • Good experience of parental/community liaison
  • Experience of working with all pupils (and those with Special Educational Needs)
  • Ability to demonstrate being able to model/disseminate high quality teaching/learning across Foundation Stage and KS1
  • Possessing good knowledge of Foundation Stage and KS1 curriculum
  • Demonstrating good interpersonal skills, using these to inspire/lead colleagues
  • SENDCO qualification (although experience with SEN desirable and training can be given to the right candidate)
  • Possessing a sound understanding of Primary practice in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage One
  • Effective skills in time management
  • Enthusiastic/self-motivated/friendly/fun, lively sense of humour/effective communicator and listener
  • Possessing a passion for developing/enriching learning whilst being committed to driving up standards
